Pramod Madhwaraj is not in Cong, He is Primary member of JD(S) – Veerappa Moily
Udupi: Former Union minister Veerappa Moily has said that former minister Pramod Madhvaraj was a candidate from the JD (S) party during the Lok Sabha elections and he is not a member of the Congress party.
Replying about the merger of Banks, Moily said, the Union government led by Narendra Modi is making decisions in the night and announcing it in the morning. The Bank merger process is an economic emergency and Modi has made the decision in a Hurry without discussing it with any opposition leaders.
Undivided Dakshina Kannada district is called the ‘Banking Cradle of India’ following the establishment of the Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, Vijaya Bank, and Karnataka Bank with the former four becoming nationalized. Amidst protests, Vijaya Bank, one of the jewels of the ‘Banking Cradle of India’, was merged with Bank of Baroda along with Dena Bank last year. Now, yesterday the union government has announced the merger decision of Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank.
The disastrous decision to merge banks from Dakshina Kannada district is an insult to the people of the coastal region. The coastal districts which have been the cradle of banks have now become orphans in the hands of the present NDA Govt, he said.
These banks were started by our forefathers to help the poor people of Undivided DK district. By merging these banks with other banks is condemnable. The merger will not help the poor people, it will help only the corporates. The Government is not ready to help the poor people of the country but is running behind the corporates. In the coming days Modi will merge our banks with the banks of foreign countries banks, he said.
The release of Rs 1.76 lakh crores to the Govt by R.B.I against all norms and probity of the financial process is condemnable. This is an attempt to sabotage the credibility of an apex financial institution. The Jalan Committee had earlier said the amount will be transferred to the government in installments over a period of 4-5 years. India is in a deep financial crisis. The economy is in shambles; all indicators of development are low. India’s GDP is continuously falling, he said.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Former MLA U R Sabhapathi, District Congress President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, KPCC Secretary M A Gafoor, Congress leader Harsha Moily were present during the press meet.
