Pramod Madhwaraj launches vaccination drive against foot-and-mouth disease

Udupi: The 11th round of vaccinations against the foot-and-mouth disease for cattle in villages across the district was launched at minister Pramod Madhwaraj’s house in Uppoor, Kolalgiri here on Wednesday, October 26.

Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge symbolically inaugurated the drive by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion the minister said that in the last few rounds, we had started to vaccinate the cattle once in six months. We have been able to provide 100 percent immunity to the animals. As a result, from the past one year, Udupi has been free of foot-and-mouth disease.

After the Congress government came to power in Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has revised the subsidy amount from Rs 2 to Rs 4 for the dairy producers and families across Karnataka. As a result, many farmers have come forward to produce milk. The subsidy offered to the milk producers has resulted in an increase in milk production in the state. Despite staff shortage, the department of animal husbandry has yielded results in the Foot and Mouth disease, which was once a major challenge, but now it is under control, in the district, he added.

DK and Udupi district milk federation president Raviraj Hegde, Uppoor Grama Panchayat president Arathi, ZP member Janardhan Tonse, TP Member Dinakar Heroor, Dr Sarvotham and others were present.
