Pramod Madhwaraj Orders Enquiry on Vented Dam Work under Varahi Irrigation Project
Udupi: The vented dam construction work implemented in the Nadpalu under the Varahi Irrigation Project will be effectively probed said District Minister In-charge Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking at the review meeting held at the Kundapur Taluk Panchayat after inspecting the work at the Right Bank and Left Bank Canal, Lift Irrigation and Distributaries of the Varahi Irrigation Project.
Krishan Poojary, member of Amasebailu Gram Panchayat said that both the vented dams were constructed at a cost of Rs 90 and 40 lakhs were not serving the irrigation needs of the farmers. Pramod Madhwaraj instructed the deputy commissioner to initiate a probe under the Consumer Rights Protection Cell.
The blasting work at the Varahi Irrigation site has caused damage to the house of Ramachandra Mendon, Minister Pramod instructed to initiate relief distribution to Mendon in 15 days. The Minister also instructed the officials to set aside the unutilized land which was included for land acquisition. The unutilized land will not be considered as Varahi land and the RTC will be changed.
For the agricultural farm belonging to Rajalakshmi which was destroyed by the Varahi water, the deputy commissioner said that a proposal to sanction rupees 12.62 lakhs has been sent to the Irrigation Department, Bengaluru and relief will be distributed. Pramod Madhwaraj who phoned the Irrigation department urged the officials to take up the matter on a priority and imitate relief.
Sanjeeva Shetty said that the Varahi canal covering 8 km near Ulluru Village has been much below the land surface has caused the water level in the wells to go down for which the Minister directed the officials to initiate necessary action.
The Minister later expressed his displeasure for not inviting the victims of Varahi but publishing their names in the respective panchayat notice boards.
