Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA Udupi constituency and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Revenue department reviewed the projects implemented in Malpe port here on April 25. He reviewed the construction work of Malpe-Padukere Bridge, slipway at 3rd stage, port construction and dredging work at the port basin along with the officials and representatives of the people.
The Malpe to Padukere bridge construction work was estimated at Rs 13.5 crore and increased to Rs 14.5 core. Additional Rs 50 lakh is reserved for the bridge under SFC. Rs 10.58 crore payment has been made to the contractor.
The width of the bridge is 6.25 meters and length is 430 meters. The construction work will be completed in July 2016. A plan is made to start NERM buses to Padukere after the completion of the bridge.
The slipway will facilitate pulling of boats mechanically which were previously pulled manually. The slipway costs Rs 2.38 crore. The TEBMA shipbuilding yard has given Rs 1.52 crore for the slipway under CSR. The bearing capacity is 60 tons, 13 boats can be parked. The slipway will be operation on April 30. The cost for the 3rd stage of the port construction is estimated at Rs 37.15 crore. The bid amount in the tender is Rs 40.05 crore and Rs 49.90 crore is the revised cost. The plans are on to invite the Chief Minister for the inauguration. 670 boats can be accommodated in the 3rd stage. Rs 25 lakh are released for the approach road. The 3rd stage port will be ready with slipway in operation.
The basin dredging was the need of the hour since many fishermen have lost their lives. With the central government aid of Rs 1.87 crore, 90,000 cubic meters of silt will be removed. The silt removed will be deposited in the deep sea, he added.
