Pramod Madhwaraj visits Attur Shrine, reviews arrangements

Karkala: Pramod Madhwaraj Udupi district minister in-charge and also minister for fisheries, youth and sports visited the St Lawrence Shrine which is elevated as Minor Basilica on Saturday, July 30.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese and Fr George D’Souza Rector of the shrine welcomed the minister. The minister offered prayers and lit candles in front of the St Lawrence Shrine.

The St Lawrence shrine at Attur near Karkala will be proclaimed as a minor Basilica on August 1. Pope Francis has elevated the shrine of St. Lawrence at Attur-Karkala to the status of a minor Basilica. It will be the second minor Basilica in Karnataka, the first being St Mary’s Basilica at Shivajinagar in Bengaluru. The Minister reviewed the arrangements made for the ceremony and expressed his satisfaction with the same.

Three cardinals from the country, many archbishops, bishops, priests and about 12,000 people from the diocese of Udupi, Mangaluru and neighbouring diocese, will be participating in the event.

Former MLA Gopal Bhandary, Fr Lawrence D’Souza (Convener of the programme), John D’Silva and others were present.
