Pramod Madhwaraj Visits Injured Cong Activist in hospital-Condemns Police Lathi-charge

Udupi: Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Monday, 10 September visited district government hospital and enquired the health of Ramesh Kanchan, R K Ramesh and Vijay Poojary who were injured during the police Lathi-charge, that took place during Bharath Bandh.

Later speaking to media persons Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Indian National Congress had called for Bharat Bandh over fuel price rise. Our Udupi District Congress leaders on Sunday had requested the public to support Bharath Bandh. But this morning, our party members went around the City and met shop owners again and requested them to lend their support for the Bandh. While they were protesting peacefully, the BJP members objected which is condemnable. In a democratic country everyone has right to protest. When I was the minister in-charge of district the BJP people protested many times and no congress leaders
raised any objections. But unfortunately, while BJP members were creating some hassles with our party workers, the police remained numb, instead of controlling the BJP activists.

” When few of our congress workers came near Bannanje, the BJP activists intentionally arrived to that spot and started creating nuisance, but the police remained silent in controlling the situation. Few minutes later, when SP arrived at the spot started he resort to
lathi charge which we strongly condemn. Our two councilors were injured in this incident. The whole congress party will condemn the SP’s attitude. The Udupi police have acted like Goonda’s, and we have decided to contact home minister for a fair enquiry in this incident.
I have already spoken with district minister in charge Jayamala and she also will discuss the matter with Home Minister”added Madhwaraj.
