Preparation for Inauguration of Pilar-Shirva Church, Devotees Offer Hore Kanike

Udupi: Ahead of the inauguration of the newly-built Infant Jesus Church, Pilar Shirva, a Hore Kanike procession was held on Sunday, December 31.

The Horekanike from 5 different Wards of the Pilar Parish, parishioners of the mother parish Shirva and the Ganeshothstsava Samithi participated in large numbers bringing different items from coconuts to a variety of vegetables, rice and other items.

The parishioners from all wards dressed traditionally to symbolise the original tradition of the community, gathered ward by ward with their wide variety of gifts.

The Hore Kanike procession was symbolically inaugurated by Fr. Stany Tauro Parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva at the Pilar Junction. The statue of the Infant Jesus was taken in a procession to the new church.

The head-load gift offerings with a variety of gifts from the parishioners of all wards along with the gifts from other local religious community members were brought to the Church in a procession.

The occasion and the ceremony reflected and celebrated the unity amongst all the community members of Pilar and the neighbouring areas. The head-load gift offerings were then ceremoniously accepted by Fr Stany Tauro parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva.
The ward leaders, other community leaders, police officials and the correspondant of Mangalorean.com were honoured by Fr. Stany Tauro by offering a shawl for their service.
Fr. Kiran Nazareth, SDB incharge priest of PilarValrian Machado Coordintor, of Pilar, Wilson D’Souza vice president Shirva Parish Pastoral council, Leena Machado secretary, Melwin Aranha Coordintor-Parish commissions were present on the occasion.
