Preventive Detention Order Issued Against Bharath Shetty Under Goonda Act

Mangaluru: A preventive detention order has been issued against Bharath Shetty (27), a resident of Ashraya Colony, Idya Village, Surathkal, under Section 3 of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum Grabbers, and Video or Audio Pirates Act, 1985 (Goonda Act). The order was issued on January 31, 2025.

Bharath Shetty has a history of serious criminal offenses, with 13 cases registered against him in various police stations under Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada district. These cases include:

– Murder
– Attempted murder (4 cases)
– Dacoity
– Unlawful assembly
– Assault
– Offenses against women

Despite facing repeated legal actions, Bharath Shetty has continued his criminal activities, posing a significant threat to public order and peace. To prevent further criminal activities and maintain law and order, preventive detention action has been taken against him.

Under the Goonda Act, the detaining authority must provide the detainee with the detention order and all supporting materials within five days. The Advisory Board will review the detention order, and if sufficient cause is found, the government may confirm the order and continue the detention for up to 12 months.
