Probe Launched into Viral Video of Overcrowded KSRTC Bus

Mangaluru: A viral video showing passengers packed in a KSRTC bus on the Karkala-Udupi route has sparked outrage on social media, with many blaming the state government’s free bus scheme for the situation.

However, Rajesh Shetty, senior divisional controller of KSRTC Mangaluru division, has clarified that the video is misleading. According to Shetty, the incident occurred on Friday when the bus, carrying over 60 passengers, hit a large hump, damaging the footboard. The bus was immediately withdrawn from service and sent for repairs. Passengers were transferred safely to another bus.

Shetty assured that the safety of passengers is the top priority and that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He urged social media users to refrain from spreading misinformation and assured that KSRTC is committed to providing safe and comfortable travel to its passengers.

The incident has raised concerns about implementing the free bus scheme and its impact on public transportation in the state. Authorities have promised to take necessary measures to address the issue and prevent such incidents.
