‘Wake Me Up’ Fame Swedish DJ Avicii who Rocked Bengaluru during Sunburn 2013 Festival found Dead at age 28 in Oman, UAE on 20 April, 2018.
Mangaluru: I remember the date December 7, 2013, when me and bunch of my friends from Mangaluru had converged at the Neo Town Arena, Electronic City-Bengaluru for the Sunburn Festival 2013, where Avicii was one of the many EDM artists that featured during that festival. Among all the other artists who performed that night, Avicii rocked the stage with his signature numbers, namely ‘Wake Me Up’; ‘Le7els’, ‘Bromance’ and ‘Silhoutte’. Avicii, the maker of all these stupendous hits and an extra-ordinary super-star of all time- AVICII was back again in Bangaluru after his debut, sell out Arena tour of India in 2011.
Tim Bergling aka “Avicii” -the Swedish mega-god of big room melodic House had graced India on the 6th, 7th and 8th of December 2013 at Mumbai, Bengaluru & Delhi as part of the Sunburn-7 season kick-off. Fans and followers alike of the festival and Avicii lovers had rejoiced at all the three venues, since earlier he had canceled out in April 2013 just before his impending tour of India was about to take place, due to ill health. But his fans enjoyed his appearance when he rocked India at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi the same year in December 2013.
At his Bengaluru performance, Avicii poised perfectly to make the dance floors rock, where he had put together an album by the name of ”TRUE” that took us all into the realms of Country and Rock influenced tracks that showcase the diversity of the artistic vision Avicii stands for. ‘True’ was well on it’s way to being one of the most coveted chart-topping releases this year.
According to Rolling-Stones magazine, Avicii became famous with his 2011 hit “Levels” and was part of a wave of electronic dance music D.J.s who achieved pop-star levels of prominence. His songs have been streamed more than a billion times on Spotify. He was nominated for two Grammy Awards for best dance recording, in 2012 and 2013, and his most well-known song, “Wake Me Up,” reached the No. 4 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
He had also released two albums: the platinum “True,” in 2013, and “Stories,” in 2015. Both “Levels” and “Wake Me Up” were certified platinum; the singles “Waiting for Love,” “The Nights,” “You Make Me” and “I Could Be the One” — a collaboration with Nicky Romero — went gold. His most recent release was the 2017 EP “Avīci (01),” a six-track collection that was intended to be the first in a series of three EPs.
The songs on “True” frequently blended folk instruments with dance beats. “Wake Me Up,” a song that lingered on the Hot 100 for more than a year, featured soulful vocals from Aloe Blacc singing about the lessons of youth:
So wake me up when it’s all over,
When I’m wiser and I’m older,
All this time I was finding myself, and I
Didn’t know I was lost.
On his recordings, Avicii teamed up with a wide range of musicians, including the bluegrass artist Dan Tyminski, the country-rock singer Zac Brown, the glam-pop vocalist Adam Lambert and the rapper-singer Wyclef Jean. He produced music for Madonna and Coldplay and became one of the highest paid D.J.s. In 2015, Forbes ranked him as the world’s sixth-highest-paid D.J., estimating his annual earnings at $19 million.
But Avicii retired from international touring in 2016 at age 26 after a series of health scares that struck while he was on the road. He had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014. Before that, at 21, he learned he had acute pancreatitis, which he said was related in part to excessive drinking. “I was drinking way too much, partying in general way too much,” he said in a 2013 interview with Time magazine. “So that forced me to do a 180 and stop drinking.”
Tim Bergling was born in Stockholm on Sept. 8, 1989, to Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén. He is survived by his parents; his sister, Linda Sterner; and his brothers, Anton Körberg and David Bergling.
After his retirement, Avicii reassured his fans that he would continue to record music in the studio, which was “the place where it all made sense,” he said in a statement posted to his website. Making music, he wrote, was “what I feel I was born to do.” “The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys,” he added. “It is the beginning of something new.”
Avicii will be sadly missed by his millions of fans worldwide, including a bunch of us who saw him live at Sunburn 2013 Festival in Bengaluru. Sadly missed- May His Soul Rest In Peace!

Producer and DJ known as Avicii, 28, has been found dead
NEW YORK (Gulf News): The Swedish-born producer and DJ known as Avicii has been found dead in Oman.
Publicist Diana Baron said in a statement that the 28-year-old DJ, born Tim Bergling, was in Muscat, Oman.
“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time,” the statement said.
Avicii was a pioneer of the contemporary Electronic Dance Movement and a rare DJ capable of worldwide arena tours. He won two MTV Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award and earned two Grammy nominations. His biggest hit was “Le7els”.
His death comes just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP “Avicii (01).” He was nominated alongside his peers, who have taken EDM mainstream of late – The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and Kygo.
Avicii’s hits include “Wake Me Up!” ‘’The Days” and “You Make Me.” He is the subject of the 2017 Levan Tsikurishvil documentary “Avicii: True Stories.”
Avicii had in the past suffered acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking. After having his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014, he canceled a series of shows in attempt to recover. He quit touring in 2016 but continued making music in the studio.
“It’s been a very crazy journey. I started producing when I was 16. I started touring when I was 18. From that point on, I just jumped into 100 percent,” Avicii told Billboard magazine in 2016.
“When I look back on my life, I think: whoa, did I do that? It was the best time of my life in a sense. It came with a price – a lot of stress a lot of anxiety for me – but it was the best journey of my life.”
Last year, he posted this message on his website, promising to keep creating: “The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.”
