Prof. A M Narahari Retires from St Aloysius College after 42 Years of Service

 Mangaluru: Prof A.M.Narahri has retired from St Aloysius College after a long service of nearly 42 years. Although he reached the age of superannuation in 2014, the management of St Aloysius College had extended his services as the Registrar for five years.

Starting his career as a lecturer in Commerce in 1978, he served the college in different capacities such as HOD, Dean and Later as the First Registrar under autonomous status. Thousands of students have passed through his guidance and teaching. St Aloysius College has seen tremendous growth in these years and he had a significant role in it. Firmly believing in continuous learning, he did his LL.B in 1984 while in service by securing the first rank in Mangalore University. Later he also he did his M.Phil and Ph.D Studies.

He involved himself in the teacher movement for the cause of qualitative improvement of higher education. AMUCT (Association of Mangalore University College Teachers) came to the forefront under his leadership. He led the organization for 25 years and later became the president of the Federation of University and college Teachers’ Associations in Karnataka. While leading the teacher movement at the state level for 10 years, he was instrumental in ensuring several changes in higher education with improved service conditions for teachers. He was also recognized by National Organizations.

He served on Mangalore University Senate and Academic council by getting elected twice. Recognising his talent and commitment, the State Government had appointed him as a member of the State Higher Education Council. He was also appointed as an expert member on several committees including the high power committee to amend the State Universities Act.

He was also associated with several social organisations. His writings have been published in several newspapers. He participated in several discussions, debates and interviews in the media as an expert on many contemporary issues. He intends to share his knowledge on higher education post retirement.
