Property worth Rs 63 cr Damaged in Heavy Rains in Udupi Dist – MP Shobha Karandlaje
Udupi: “It is estimated that property worth Rs 63 crore has been damaged following heavy rains in Udupi district during the last four days”, said Shobha Karndlaje MP Udupi – Chikkamagaluru.
She was speaking to media persons after chairing a meeting with officials on the damage caused by heavy rains in Udupi district on Friday, August 9.
Flood fury continued unabated in North Karnataka even as Malnad and the coast braced for heavy rains which have so far claimed three lives in Udupi district and destroyed standing crops in lakhs of acres in the district.
The district administration has already handed over compensation of Rs 4 lakhs each for two families and is waiting for the report from officials in the death of a person, she said.
568 houses were partially damaged in the heavy rains and gusty winds during the past four days in the district
MESCOM has incurred a loss of Rs 3 crore in the form of damages to transformers, electric poles and wires.
Further, she said that officials have been directed to prepare an estimate for repairing the damaged roads, footbridges and bridges.
She said the district administration is all set to tackle any kind of eventualities following rains.
Incessant rain resulted in low-lying areas in Nada under Byndoor Assembly constituency getting inundated. Families were shifted to a relief centre and the district administration decided to handover relief kit to the families.
DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA’s Raghupathi Bhat, Haladi Srinivas Shetty, Sukumar Shetty, Lalaji R Mendon, Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Deputy commissioner Hepsiba Rani Koralpati, SP Nisha James, ZP president Dinakar Babu, ZP CEO Sindhu Roopesh and district in-charge secretary Maheshwar Rao were also present.
