Proposal for setting up of 14 AYUSH hospitals approved: Government

New Delhi (PTI): Proposals for setting up fourteen 50-bedded integrated AYUSH hospitals in nine states under the National AYUSH Mission has been approved, Rajya Sabha was told today.

“The government has approved proposals for setting up fourteen 50-bedded integrated AYUSH hospitals in nine states under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) during 2014-15 and 2015-16.

“For setting up these hospitals, a total amount of Rs 330 lakh was approved during 2014-15 and Rs 2014.56 lakh has been approved till date during 2015-16,” AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik said.

He said that under AYUSH services, components of centrally sponsored scheme NAM, there is provision for setting up of upto 50-bedded integrated AYUSH hospitals which may also include Unani System of medicine.

“The government gives Rs 10 crore for the construction of the hospital and Rs 1.5 crore towards running expenses,” he said.

There are eight central government Unani hospitals in Bihar, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnatka, he added.

In reply to another question, Naik said 297 Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM) colleges are imparting Ayurveda education in the country.

“The total intake capacity in undergraduate course of Ayurveda is 17,192 students and 3,661 in postgraduate courses,” he said.

The minister said the government approved and notified NAM in 2014 which aims to better access to AYUSH services, including upgrade of state government exclusive AYUSH hospitals, setting up of upto 50-bedded integrated AYUSH hospitals, strengthening of AYUSH educational institutions among others.
