Protest If You Dare! In Spite of Heavy Security, Protesters took Risk and got Lathi Charged
Mangaluru: The area around Deputy Commissioner’s Office near State Bank looked like a fortress with a baton of police force guardian the entrance gates, with a few police armed with rifles. Smelling trouble by protesters, even after Section 144 was imposed by Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, the law enforcement authorities took preventive measures by deputing heavy team of police personnel near the DC Office, this morning, Thursday, 19 December 2019.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean Dr P S Harsha this morning around noon said, “Even though I had issued orders for Section 144 in the city, but there were rumours that a couple of organizations along with students were still planning on protesting. So in order to prevent them from staging any protest in front of DC’s office, we have all these police personnel to stop it. In case, the protesters still resist our orders we will take action and whisk them away from the scene”.
Having said that by the Police Commissioner, between 1.30-2 pm, a group of over 100-200 youth disobeying the Section 144 in force marched on the Bibi Alabi Road/Mission Street raising slogans against Central Amendment Act and marched towards DC’s office. This led to the anger of the police force who didn’t waste any time, instead started lathi charging the protesters, and thus dispersing from the area. But the protesters were so stubborn that a bunch of them returned again, and were once again lathi-charged by the cops. Two bus loads of protesters were arrested and taken to an undisclosed place.
