Public Figures Rally to Protect the Constitution at Kapu ‘Save Constitution’ Event
Udupi: In a significant gathering on Tuesday, progressive thinker Niketh Raj Maurya emphasized the inherent value of the Constitution, labeling it “sacred” alongside revered texts such as the Bible, Bhagavad Gita, and Quran. Speaking at the “Save Constitution” procession and public meeting organized by Rakshanapura Javaneru Kavu in collaboration with various organizations, Maurya poignantly remarked, “It’s ironic that we’re now in a situation where we have to fight to protect it,” lamenting the necessity to advocate for a document that assures social, economic, and educational rights.
The event, hosted in Kapu City, saw the participation of notable figures, including former minister and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) campaigning committee, Vinay Kumar Sorake. Sorake reiterated the importance of unity among all religious communities to safeguard constitutional rights, noting the visionary role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in its formation. He affirmed, “This is the duty of people of all religions,” highlighting the collective responsibility to maintain the Constitution’s integrity.
Former Member of Parliament K. Jayaprakash Hegde contributed to the discourse by expressing that the Constitution guarantees the right to live with equality, reflecting on the nation’s extensive 70-year journey towards development. He underscored the need for ongoing evaluation of this progress while ensuring the Constitution remains upheld.
Sudheer Kumar Muroorli, another progressive thinker, articulated that the sanctity of India’s Constitution is paramount, urging every citizen to play a role in its preservation. He asserted that the “Save Constitution” initiative aims to enhance public awareness regarding the foundational document.
The event also witnessed the presence of various religious and political leaders, including V. Moolya Shreenivasa Tantri Kalya and Political Leaders such as Ashok Kumar Kodavooru, further broadening the coalition supporting constitutional protection.
Highlighting community involvement, the program included distributing sarees to women and honoring district-level Rajyotsava award winners, showcasing local talent and dedication.
The procession commenced from the Kapu Sri Lakshmi Janardhana Temple and attracted thousands, uniting women, religious leaders, public representatives, and Congress party officials in a common cause. This demonstration serves not only as a call to action but also as an affirmation of the Constitution’s pivotal role in nurturing and protecting the democratic fabric of India.
