Puttur: National Cadet Corps Day was celebrated on 17th January, 2014 at St. Philomena College premises.
The NCC flag was hoisted by the chief guest of the function, Col. (Retd.) G.D. Bhat, Indian Army.
The chief guest of the function said, “The training given to the NCC cadets will make them disciplined, determined and hardworking people. If you consider defense services as your career, NCC will create a good platform for the students.
He advised the students to be hardworking, daring and adventurous because it will create greater opportunities in life and prepare them for greater challenges.
Guest of honour, Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the College speaking on the occasion encouraged the students to join the military which will help the youth of our country to be more disciplined and be better citizens of the country.
Guest of honour, Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairman of PG Studies, said, “We have a strong contingent of NCC cadets who could be budding soldiers of this country. NCC day is celebrated in the college not just for the NCC cadets, but for the entire college.”
Fr Alfred J Pinto, Correspondent of the College, in his presidential address said that India is a country of diversities and it is our duty to maintain the unity of this diversity.
The cadets contribution during the parade was remarkable. They performed magnificently through prompt and active participation. The parade session was fulfilling under the leadership of Basith M K, l B.Com B and under the guidance of Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira.
Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira was felicitated for his achievements in the field of NCC and also for having bestowed with the title Lieutenant. The NCC cadets were also felicitated for their active participation throughout the year.
Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal of St. Philomena P.U. College, was also a guest of honour. The gathering was welcomed by Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira. Basith M.K, l B.Com B, delivered the vote of thanks. Mumtha, lll BBM, compered the programme.
