Mangaluru: The Bantwal police have taken a webportal and Newspaper reporter into custody on September 7, after he had reported on the search of Kalandar who was the accused in Sharat Madival murder case on September 2.
On September 2, the Bantwal police searched the house of Kalandar who was involved in the Sharat Madival case with a search warrant. A particular web portal published that during the search the Bantwal police had disrespected the Quran.
After the news was published SP Sudheer Reddy clarified that during the search operations, the Panchas were present and the entire search operation was video recorded. He also said that action would be taken against those who reportedly planted the holy book at the place of search, clicked photographs and circulated them to show the police in poor light. The police had not disregarded or disrespected any religious books during the search operation. When a religious book was among the articles picked during the search, the investigation officer rightfully handed it to an elderly relative of Kalandar, who took it inside the house. Similarly, the police returned a cheque book and other important documents to Kalandar’s relative.
