Udupi: The downpour that lashed Kaup on Monday morning affected normal life to a great extent. A huge tree was uprooted, electricity poles were damaged, roads inundated and the power supply disrupted for a long time.
According to sources, as many as 6 electric poles were damaged in the rain. As a result, the power supply was affected in parts of Kaup area. Regular supply of power was later restored. Fire and Rescue Services personnel were called to clear the uprooted trees for smooth vehicular movement.
The residents of Kaup faced severe problems when the rain water mixed with sewage gushed into their homes. Residents alleged that the situation was caused by unscientific methods in which the work on the national highway was being undertaken.
