Rajivnagar residents demand to close newly opened illegal Bar

Udupi: The villagers of Rajivnagar near Manipal demanded the closure of the newly opened bar after it failed to obtain an NOC from the Gram Panchayat. The protest was organised in front of the office of the deputy commissioner of excise here on July 11.

A person opened a Non-veg restaurant in Rajivnagar and eventually converted it to a bar. The locals say that the bar leads to problems in the community as they have not allowed any bar to operate in Rajivnagar.

The owner had applied for an NOC to the Gram Panchayat saying that he was opening a Non-veg restaurant which he converted into a bar.

The bar is now functioning near the bus stand which is causing problems for the children and women. Those who are now running the bar illegally have fooled the gram panchayat by misrepresenting the facts and legal action should be initiated against them.

The excise department needs to answer on the illegal bar operating in Rajivnagar.

The protestors demanded the presence of excise DC and condemned his act for not addressing the protestors despite giving them an appointment.

Ravindra Shetty, Vasthala Shenoy, Santosh Pai and others were present.
