‘Rally or Protest If You Dare! – Cops Give Stern Warning to ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ organizers

Mangaluru:  Are our politicians hooked on stupidity or what? When Mangaluru is already choked up with heavy traffic during any given day- and in spite of that these politicians are organizing a “Mangaluru chalo Bike Rally” where nearly 15-20 thousand bikers were suppose to land in the beautiful calm and peaceful City of Mangaluru, doesn’t make any sense to me nor to anyone else, I suppose. Kudos to Police Commissioner T R Suresh for taking a bold step and denying permission to hold this “Chalo”/Rally. What would the organizers gain by having a one-day protest/chalo demanding the ban of couple of Organizations and also resignation of District-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai- NOTHING? One day protest/rally/padayathra in the past have brought no positive results- other than one day show or just showing political stunt.

And for that matter, the law enforcement department should also ban the peace march organized by Congress on September 12 from Farangipet – in the past also there have been peace march/peace meeting- but in spite of these, communal unrest and violence have never stopped. So why even bother to have rallies or peace marches, if no positive results are shown. Why can’t we all live in peace and harmony without all this drama- most of us are educated people, we can judge ourselves, control ourselves by not getting into communal disharmony or hate or violence. We don’t have to listen to our politicians, who are mind boggling us and leading into a different path of communal tension and disharmony. Hope you all will agree!

In spite of police giving a stern warning that the organizers of “Mangaluru Chalo” should not have any procession/rally or padayathra, still the organizers have already set up a stage near Jyothi Circle- and in response to this the police too have acted accordingly. Huge battalion of local police along with Rapid Action Force personnel are all geared up to handle any situation. Jyothi Circle/Dr Ambedkar Circle looks like a War Zone, with police force and police vehicles all set to strike in case the situation gets ugly. Tit-for-tat, the police personnel are all ready to face the rallyists no matter what. Police Commissioner TR Suresh along with other higher police officers are assembled near Jyothi circle. Even the fire department is on the stand by if any untoward incident takes place- also in stand by are few ambulances- and bunch of KSRTC buses to transport the agitators if they get arrested.

PC T R Suresh stationed at Jyothi Circle speaking to Team Mangalorean said, ” We have over 1000 police personnel ready to handle any situation, including 15 KSRP units, 4 ASP’s, 2 additional DSP’s, 10 ASI’s and members of special striking force, including RAF. Even former PC and present IGP (CID) Bengaluru M Chandrashekar is here to oversee bandobast arrangements. We have already conducted route march by these police force to bring awareness among the organizers and public, not to get into any untoward incidents. The main reason to ban this Rally is for the fact it will result in sound and air pollution when nearly 15,000 two-wheelers arrive in the City; and also chances are that it may lead to law and order problems. Accidents could also take place, and since it is a large convoy of vehicles, the organizers may lose control on them. There area also chances that other miscreants may sneak in between the rallyists and create problems. We should also note that DK/Mangaluru is community-sensitive and has witnessed several untoward incidents in the past, and we wanted to control it. We are ready to face these organizers if they violate our orders, and also ready to arrest them. “

Team Mangalorean wants to advise citizens to take an alternative route other than Jyothi Circle, because of all the commotion and security preparations going on there. Stay safe!

“What would the organizers gain by having a one-day protest/chalo demanding the ban of couple of Organizations” – Author. Well, this sums up the sad state of our media these days. Where was this ‘logic’ and urge to avoid any religion based conflicts during recent controversy over ‘bavuta gudda’ road renaming? The ‘couple of organizations’ referred here are the same ones linked to sending people to ISIS. Even Kerala govt and police dept are taking this seriously. When will our media stop engaging in this false moral equivalency and start reporting real threats posed by certain ‘organizations’? It’s always easy… Read more »
