Ramakrishna Mission holds 2nd Shramadan of the 40 Weeks’ Swacchata Abhiyan

Mangaluru: The 2nd week’s Swacchata Abhiyan of the 40 weeks’ Abhiyan being carried out by Ramakrishna Mission was carried out in Hampankatta area. Followed by prayers at 7:30 am the Abhiyan was flagged off by Bharathi Shetty, Former MLC and Tejaswini Gowda, Former MP in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of Mangalore Ramakrishna Math. Tejaswini Gowda shared a few words with the volunteers and motivated them by declaring that they are really into the Nation-building task and they should carry on this mission in spite of all challenges. Bharathi Shetty said, “Realizing the dream of Swacch Bharath is the responsibility of every citizen and the guidance and leadership provided by the Ramakrishna Mission to the public is commendable.” Captain Ganesh Karnik, Chief Whip of Opposition delivered the prefatory address.

Flagging off was followed by Swami Jitakamanandaji and guests volunteering themselves with brooms to clean the streets. Volunteers organized themselves into 6 groups under the guidance of Sri Dilraj Alva. Vittaldas Prabhu ad Kodange Balakrishna Naik led the members of Nivedita Balaga in cleaning the area and road, footpath in front of University College, Hampankatta.

In the 3rd phase of the Abhiyan, University College compound was adorned with the beautiful painting depicting rich cultural heritage of Dakshina Kannada. The walls were covered with moss due to rains in the monsoon season. Members of Hindu Warriors under the guidance of Satish Moodigere cleaned the walls by washing with water and brush. The compound wall in front of Wenlock hospital were also cleaned by the young members of Amba Maheshwari Bhajana Mandira led by Umanath Kotekar.

Students of S Madhusudan Kushe Highschool and volunteers from Scouts & guides under the guidance of Prathim Kumar went to each and every shop in the region distributing handbills on awareness and hygiene.

Dr Rajendra Prasad, Shivakumar CA, K V Sathyanarayana and nearly 150 volunteers actively participated in the drive from 7:30 am to 10:00 am. All the volunteers were provided with tiffin after the drive.

Ramakrishna Mission with the cooperation from DK Zilla Panchayat carried out Swacch Dakshina Kannada Abhiyan in nearly 50 villages of D K Dist. Equipment for cleanliness drives, T-Shirts, banners etc. were given to all the volunteers in the villages. They were also provided with Tiffin.
