Ramakrishna Mission’s Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan Projects Cleaner City

Mangaluru: Sixth week of 13 cleanliness drives of the 400 Abhiyans being organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru took off on Sunday, the 20th November at 13 different locations in the city.

65 Shivabagh – The interested citizens of Kadri Shivabagh area under the guidance and leadership of Sheela Jayaprakash and Kala Deepak cleaned the Shivabagh area for about 2.5 hours. Swami Jitakamanandaji and MLA, J R Lobo flagged off the drive. Local Corporator Sabitha Misquith, Chandra D Rao, Malini Hebbar and others actively participated in the drive. The employees of Abharan Jewelers and KFC too joined in the drive.

66 Kavoor – The public of Kavoor area carried out the cleanliness drive around Gandhinagar Bus stand area in Kavoor. Captain Ganesh Karnik and M Shashidhar Shetty flagged off the drive. About 50 people under the guidance of Sadananda Rai and Sachin cleaned the area. Along with sweeping the area clean, they also built platforms around roadside trees for the benefit of the pedestrians. They also put up a beautiful signboard on the bus shelter renovated during the last drive.

67 Land Links – The members of Sri Matri Dhama Women’s wing carried out the cleanliness drive in Landlinks area. Former Minister Krishna J Palemar and Manohar Tulajaram flagged off the drive. Locals of the area under the guidance of K V Sathyanarayana thoroughly cleaned the park which was neglected for years together. They rooted out the weeds and cleaned the heaps of garbage lying in all the corners of the park and painted the equipment in the playground thus giving a much-needed facelift. Vedavathi and others cleaned the surrounding area. Vijay Kumar Shetty actively participated. Shambhavi coordinated the team.

68 Saint Aloysius College – The students of Saint Aloysius College under the leadership of Premalatha Shetty carried out the drive in front of St Aloysius College and its surroundings. Swami Dharmavratanandaji and Alwyn Dais, Vice Principal of the college gave the green signal for the drive. Manohar Prabhu and Sheshappa Amin along with some staff from Aloysius college guided the team. Lecturer Arjun Prakash coordinated the team.

69 Mangala Nagar – Members of Sharada Mahila Vrinda and the public of Mangala Nagar area carried out the cleanliness drive in Mangala Nagar Area. Swami Chidambaranandaji flagged off the drive. Sathyavathi and Lathamani Rai led the team in thoroughly cleaning the area off the dirt and heaps of garbage lying there. K Balakrishna Naik coordinated the team.

70 Jail Road – The Members of Sri Subrahmanya Sabha carried out the cleanliness drive in jail Road. The friars from Capuchin church in the area and Purushottam jointly flagged off the drive. More than 80 people under the leadership of M R Vasudev actively cleaned the Jail road and surrounding area. Srikanth coordinated the team.

71 Naguri – The Youths from Garodi Temple carried out the special cleanliness drive in the Nagori area. Keshava Maroli, Local Corporator and Swami Ekagamyanandaji jointly flagged off the drive. More than 75 youth and the public started their preparations about 2 days before. The team led by Prakash Garodi repaired and renovated the roof-less bus shelter and gave a new look by painting it. Members of Googly Cricketers under the guidance of Sandeep Garodi painted the Zebra crossing on the dangerous stretch of the National Highway thus helping the pedestrians. The local market was also thoroughly cleaned and repainted with paintings and graffiti depicting the message of Swacch Mangaluru by Shailesh Kotian, Vikram Shetty, Naveen Poojary and others.

72 Urwa Ground – The members of Ashok Nagar Lions club and others carried out the drive. Lions Governor Arun Shetty and Prashanth Pai jointly flagged off the drive. They cleaned the Urwa ground and surrounding areas. Sadashiva Rai and Narayana coordinated the drive.

73 Derebail – Volunteers cleaned the Derebail Konchady road. Dayananda K flagged off the drive. Locals of Derebail area under the leadership of Lakshman carried out the drive for more than 2 hours. Jagadish Shetty coordinated the team.

74 Kolya – The public of Kolya area carried out the 2nd month’s drive in the area. Uday Kumar Shetty, President of Kotekar Town Panchayat and Seetharam jointly flagged off the drive. Purnakala actively participated in the drive.

75 Sharavu Temple Road – The students of Ganapathi High school have been regularly carrying on the cleanliness drives. This time they cleaned the area in front of Sharavu Temple. Gururaj Hegde and Damodar Hegde flagged off the drive. Students cleaned both sides of the road. Ramachandra Rao and Mahesh Bondal coordinated the team.

76 Nanthur – The members of Havyaka Sabha carried out the drive from Padua Circle till Nanthur Circle. Local councillor Ropa D Bangera and Ganesh Mohan flagged off the drive. About 60 members of Havyaka Sabha under the leadership of Dr Rajendra Prasad carried out the cleanliness work. Venugopal coordinated the team of volunteers.

77 Konaje – Students of Mangalore University under the banner, “Swacch Mangala Gangotri” took up the drive inside the university campus. Prof. Balakrishna and Prof. Mohan Shinghe jointly flagged off the drive. More than a hundred students actively participated in the drive. Ashok and Shashank coordinated the team.
