Ramanath Rai Inaugurates Karavali Utsav, Colourful Procession held
Mangaluru: District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai inaugurated the Karavali Utsav at the Karavali grounds, Lalbagh here, on December 23.
The Karavali Utsav was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon, later the dignitaries lit the traditional lamp, broke the coconut and inaugurated the colourful procession with more than 70 troupes participating from the Karavali grounds to the Kadri Park.
President of Kannada Sahitya Academy Pradeep Kumar Kalkura welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the gathering minister for Food and civil supplies U T Khader said, “Today we are here to inaugurate the Karavali Utsav. Various committees in the district have worked hard to highlight the unity, tradition, and culture of the coastal district. In Dakshina Kannada we have unity in diversity, various communities living here have unitedly organised Karavali Utsav. Such Utsav’s will help in strengthening our nation. Our asset is the sacrifice of our elders. Smart city means the people of this district should be smart. A smart city is not based on the buildings or the infrastructure but is based on the people and their attitude. If we need to build a beautiful city, we have to be humane. If the government has no humanity, it is not possible to rule. Humanity should be the priority of the government. Let the culture and tradition of Dakshina Kannada be the model to the entire country”.
Kannada, Konkani, Beary, Tulu academies, Kannada and Cultural department, as well as various organisations, are taking part in the procession with their tableaus.
Deputy commissioner Dr Jagadeesha, ADC Kumar, Mayor Harinath, former mayor Sashidhar Hegde and others were also present.
