Ramanji wears ‘Drugs Karkotaka’ Vesha to Create Awareness on Drug Abuse
Udupi: Everyone earns for a living and for the well being of their family but 30-year-old youth Ramanji from Namma Bhoomi is earning for a special cause wearing Vesha from the last six years during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami.
This year Ramanji wore the Vesha of a “Drugs Karkotaka” to create awareness about the ill-effects of the consumption of drugs among the youth during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittal Pindi festival.
The Udupi district police in association with the Udupi district working journalists’ association and Udupi Press Club organized a two-month long Anti-drug Awareness campaign. As part of the campaign, Ramanji decided to join hands with the organizers and create awareness on Drug abuse among the people attending Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittal Pindi festival.
On Sunday, September 2, the Udupi District superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi flagged off the Drugs Karkotaka Vesha by handing over a flower bouquet to Ramanji and wished him well in his work for a good cause.
Speaking to the media persons Udupi District superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said that, from the last 6 years Ramanji has been wearing the Vesha during Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittal Pindi festival and helping the poor people. This time we requested him to wear the Vesha to bring awareness on Drug abuse and he agreed to it. On behalf of the Police department and Journalists Association, I would like to thank Ramanji for joining hands for a good cause.
Besides creating awareness on drug abuse, he will also be raising funds for Vidyavardhaka Sangha Kannada Medium School in Shirva, which is running only with the help of honorary teachers so as to meet a part of the expenses being given as an honorarium to them. As many as 30 students are studying in that school.
A portion of the funds raised by him will go towards meeting the medical expenses of Saundarya, a Class 8 student of the Government Girls High School in Udupi. The special costume, “Drugs Karkotaka”, has been designed by Prashanth Udyavar.
