Rani Abbakka Model to be Displayed during Flower Exhibition at Kadri Park

Mangaluru: “The department of horticulture in association with the district administration and Zilla Panchayat will organize the annual Flower exhibition from January 26 to 29”, said the deputy director of Horticulture Yogesh H R in a press meet held at the Kadri Park here on January 25.

Addressing the mediapersons, the ZP CEO Dr M R Ravi said that the annual flower show will feature a variety of flowers and plants. The flower show will be inaugurated by the district minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai along with other ministers. The show will be open to the public, people are free to participate in the exhibition and display their artistic talents in arranging flowers and carvings with plants and fruits. To meet the expenses of the exhibition and to maintain the horticulture we are Charging an entry fee of Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children. For schools arranging to send children in large numbers, the entry will be free if students come in their school uniform. This year the entry for elderly and the physically challenged is also free.

A wide range of flowers like marigold, orchid, anthurium, dahlia, jarbera, gladiolus, celosia and other ornamental plants grown by the horticulture department will be exhibited during the Flower exhibition. The flower exhibition will be open for 4 days.

The special attraction of the exhibition will be the model of ‘Rani Abbakka’ which will be made with Dutch roses and other flowers. To promote terrace garden, the horticulture department has made a model of the Terrace garden. We will hold flower arrangement competitions for which all are free to participate.

Various flower and vegetable seeds, gardening machinery’s, manure and plants will be available for sale at the various stalls set up. There will be 80 stalls out of which 10 stalls will be from the government. The Food festival “Aharamela”, will be another special attraction of the exhibition. There will be 25 food stalls which will give importance to the local food. Ten women farmers from the district will be felicitated on the occasion. Various competitions will be held for the students to exhibit their talents and the winners will be felicitated on January 29, during the valedictory programme.
