Rare Phenomenon of Planetary Observation Captivates Enthusiasts at Pilikula
Mangalore: The Pilikula Regional Science Centre became a hub of excitement on January 25 as it hosted a rare astronomical event, ‘Planetary Observation,’ attracting a large gathering of inquisitive visitors.
Attendees expressed their awe and wonder, with many sharing sentiments such as, “I experienced the wonderful joy of the sky for the first time,” and “It felt like I was seeing the planets up close.” The event provided a unique opportunity for the public to engage with celestial phenomena, and participants praised the center for facilitating such an enriching experience.
The focus of the evening was primarily on the distant planets Uranus and Neptune, with many attendees eager to learn how these celestial bodies could be observed together in the night sky. Students in particular noted the educational value of such observational programs, emphasizing that they significantly enhance their understanding of telescopes and astronomy.
The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the center’s staff, including scientific officer Vighnesh Bhatt, educational assistant Rashmi, and mentors Hrithik, Adarsh, Ambika, Sahana, as well as the technical team consisting of Yateesh, Tukaram, Manjunath, Sharath, and Shivaram. The security officer, Dayasagar, and his team also played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and assistance of the public during the event, as highlighted by the director of the Pilikula Regional Science Centre in a recent press release.
