Record fine levied on Bundesliga club Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg (Germany), May 31 (IANS) German football club VfL Wolfsburg has been fined a record 90,000 euros ($100,165) after a fan fired a flare that hit the Hanover bench during a Bundesliga match in March.
The German FA (DFB) said Wolfsburg must spend 40,000 euros ($44,518) of the total fine to improve their security arrangements. The club accepted the fine, reports Xinhua.
Before kick-off of the March 1 match, visiting Wolfsburg fans fired flares, one of which hit the roof of the Hanover bench and exploded, forcing the home substitutes to scatter. Wolfsburg won the match 4-0.
