Red Bldg Lane Residents Stop MCC Team from doing Survey Work
Mangaluru: The issue of Road Widening at the Red Building Lane is getting more and tenser, with the local residents fighting for justice, who want to make sure that the road widening plan is not implemented and that their Kankanady-Valencia Ward corporator Asha D’Silva withdraw her decision about this plan. Protests and complaints have already been done by these residents, and they are all determined to fight till they get justice- because many fear that they may lose their property if at all the Road Widening plan is approved.
Following close on its heels, after Team Mangalorean did an exclusive report on this issue yesterday, where we spoke to the residents and also the corporator and got the clear history- and the report was published on 26 April 2017. Withing few hours after our report was published, we were notified by the local residents that MCC team headed by MCC’s Assistant Town Planning Officer have arrived at the Red Building area to do the survey- and that the residents will not allow them to do their survey unless they show them a letter of proof that the survey has been authorized by the Mayor or any authorized official.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Antony Maxim D’Souza, a local resident and member of the Red Building Nagarika Kshema Abhivardha Sangha said, “When we saw these survey officials we immediately objected to their presence here to do the survey without showing us any proof that they have been authorized to carry on the survey. We stopped them from doing the survey, and immediately we rushed to the Kankanady Police station and filed a complaint against the Mangaluru City Corporation for surveying the road without any written documents. We the residents have fully raised our objections towards road widening because of the fear that many of us will lose our property, some even houses or compound walls. There is no need for widening of this road since there are no commercial or educational establishments on this stretch of the street.”
“We demanded only for an official letter from the MCC from this survey team, which they were reluctant to do so. Since none of us have demanded road widening, why would we allow these people to do the survey without any reasons? This plan of road widening is taken up only to facilitate a couple of builders who have property at the end of this road, who are planning to construct apartment complex – and to carry on their work a 30 ft wide road is needed – at present the width of this road is about 18-20 ft. Under no circumstances we will allow this plan to go forward- we will fight till the last for justice”.
In the meantime when Team Mangalorean contacted corporator Asha D’Silva she said that she was not aware of anyone from the MCC Town Planning Department was coming there for the survey. “I was not informed about this survey. I will contact the Mayor and get more details on it” said Asha. In response MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “We had sent the officials from MCC town planning department for survey and to get more details on the ongoing road widening issue.
Now that the local residents are raising objections and even filing a complaint against these survey officials, they are making it hard and complicated to solve this problem. We will do the best to settle this issue at the earliest”.
