Rekindling Memories! ‘Aunkar Avoi’ Konkani Drama at Don Bosco Hall, 20 May

Rekindling Memories! ‘Aunkar Avoi’ (Spinster/Unmarried Mother) Konkani Drama will be staged at Don Bosco Hall-Mangaluru on 20 May at 5:30 pm. The drama was earlier staged at St. Xavier’s College Hall, Bombay in April 1965

Mangaluru: Memories will be rekindled when the drama “Aunkar Avoi”, which was staged at St. Xavier’s College Hall, Bombay in April 1965, will be staged on 20 May 2018 at 5:30 pm at Don Bosco Hall- Mangaluru. A T Lobo and AC Misquith have jointly directed this drama, and Jerome D’Souza has produced this play under the banner “Konkani Kala Pangad”

In the earlier stage performance decades ago, A.C. Misquith had the main role as a Military Man, Rose D’Souza as Military Man’s wife, Julie Pais as her spinster sister and Main Aunkar Avoi, and living with her sister; Lawry Pais as the friend of Julie Pais, Louie Fernandes (Younger brother of George Fernandes ) as Police Inspector; Reggie D’Mello as a CID/Investigator. Lawry D’Mello also had a part in this drama. Since then, the “Aunkar Avoi” drama has been staged in various locations, including several South Kanara areas.

The new artists who will perform in the Play on 20 May at Don Bosco Hall are: Jeevan Vas as Gilbert; Usha Fernandes as Sylvi; Roshan Lasrado as Victor; Leslie Ferrao as Peter; Cleeta Noronha as Rosli; Nigel Pereira as Inspector; Martin D’Souza and Edward Lobo, both as CID’s; Rishel Almeida as Felcy; Roven D’Souza as Thiya; Nisha Marola as Lilyan; Wilbert Colaco as Micky; Meera Vas and Merlyn, both as neighbors in the drama. The producer of the drama is A T Lobo Foundation; Writer-Late A T Lobo; Director-John M Permannur; Music-Shameeta Carol D’Souza; and Stage-Alwyn D’Souza Bajal.

The drama will be staged on May 20, 2018, at Don Bosco hall at 5:30 PM. Entry for the drama is FREE, and the drama will end by 9:00 pm. The organizers have humbly requested your presence in large numbers- so spread the word among your neighbours and friends, so that the Hall will be Jam packed!

Regarding A T Lobo foundation, it endeavours to preserve and spread the literature of great Konkani writer A T Lobo. He had written 15 novels and 18 dramas. Lobo’s books were reprinted, a drama ‘Bomma’ based on his short story was played and seminars on A T Lobo’s literature were conducted. The enactment of the drama ‘Bomma’ was part of the Foundation mission in taking A T Lobo’s literature to Konkani lovers. His literature, greatness in his prose and realism are in his dramas.
