Remembering Those Who Cannot Remember’ Peoples Association of geriatric Empowerment (PAGE) to Organize ‘World Alzheimer’s Month’, with kick off on 1 September 2018 at Kadri Park, Mangaluru at 7 am.

Mangaluru: Briefing about the World Alzheimer’s Month, Er Jeradin D’souza- the Secretary of ‘Peoples Association of geriatric Empowerment (PAGE)’ a registered Trust said, ” September 2018 will mark the seventh World Alzheimer’s Month {WAM} campaign, an international campaign to raise dementia awareness and challenge stigma. The primary objective of World Alzheimer’s Month is to reach out to as many countries as possible, showing the global impact of dementia and promoting dementia awareness and what we can do to help support those living with the disease. Every 3 seconds someone in the world develops dementia the theme for this year’s World Alzheimer’s Month campaign is every 3 seconds”.

Also speaking during the press meet, Dr Prabha Adhikari-Vice President PAGE said, “World Alzheimer’s Month was launched in 2012. World Alzheimer’s Day is on 21 September each year. Dementia is a collective name for progressive degenerative brain syndromes which affect memory, thinking, behaviour and emotion. Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia are the most common types of dementia, responsible for up to 90% of cases of dementia. Symptoms may include: Loss of memory; Difficulty in finding the right words or understanding what people are saying; Difficulty in performing previously routine tasks; and Personality and mood changes”.

“Dementia knows no social, economic or geographical boundaries. Although each person will experience dementia in their own way, eventually those affected are unable to care for themselves and need help with all aspects of daily life. There is currently no cure for most types of dementia, but treatments, advice, and support are available. Every 3 seconds, someone in the world develops dementia. The number of people living with dementia around the world is expected to almost double every 20 years, reaching 152 million by 2050” added Dr Adhikari.

Also speaking Octogenarian Dr Olinda Pereira, aged 93 years, the President of PAGE said, “Diagnosis of dementia is made too late. Earlier diagnosis is important to ensure that people living with dementia and their care partners can live as well as possible for longer, and access the support they need. More people living with dementia need access to a doctor who can provide a diagnosis and help to plan necessary support. We the members of Peoples Association of geriatric Empowerment (PAGE), Registered Trust to prevent and set up facilities for people living with dementia seek your support for creating awareness. We seek your support by presence, membership in a big way/ small way to help us prevent, care and cure this devastating disease. Let us run for those who suffered, let us run to find a cure, let us run to prevent this disease at least”
