Restore Dug Up City Roads for Laying Power Cables to Its Original’- Mangaluru City Corporation Writes to Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL)

Mangaluru: If you go around the City you will notice probably every road has been dug either by power, TV, Mobile, and other companies to lay their cables, but once their work is completed the labourers leave the dug area in a mess and do not restore to its originality. The same problem has been with the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) which recently had dug-up roads from the Bejai area to Nehru Maidan road to lay power cables, and after most of the work is done in certain areas, the dug-up roads have not been restored to its original condition.

Taking a serious note of the inconvenience being caused to pedestrians and motorists, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has sent a letter to the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) for the immediate restoration of a road dug for the laying of power cables in the city. In a letter to the executive engineer of the KPTCL, the executive engineer of the MCC stated that the roads were not restored properly on completion of works. “The work on laying 110kv cable from Bejai substation to Nehru Maidan substation using HDD technology by digging the concrete road has been taken up. However, after digging the road for laying cables, it has not been restored properly. As a result, pedestrians and movement of vehicles have been affected,” the MCC official said.

The city corporation has received many complaints about two-wheeler riders accidentally falling into pits dug for laying the cable near the City Centre mall on KS Rao Road and also near the traffic signal. It was found that the road dug for work was not closed properly. Meanwhile, a photo of a two-wheeler falling into the pit also went viral on social media and the public has expressed their anger over the lack of responsibility on the part of the authorities concerned.

Following this, the executive engineer of the Mangaluru City Corporation has asked the KPTCL to take up the work on the restoration of the road that was dug for laying cable immediately and complete the same at the earliest. The Mangaluru City Corporation also has asked the KPTCL to warn the contractors to ensure all precautionary measures while digging roads in the city. “Make the contractors responsible if any accident takes place due to their negligence,” the MCC wrote to the KPTCL.
