We will carry out the raid in all the streets of Mangaluru and clear the illegal petty shops which have drastically increased in create nuisance in the city.”

He further said, “We have provided yards for street vendors at the Yakshagana grounds but they are not interested in doing business there. We had given time till January 31 but most of the street vendors are still on the streets. We will the drive and evacuate all the illegal petty shops, this drive will continue for three months. This is the first drive which we have started today and it will continue. People face a lot of problems to walk on the streets and we have received many complaints from the public regarding the inconvenience because of the street vendors.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com, Town Vending committee member Asif said, “We had attended the meeting at the MCC where the revenue officers had said that they would carry out a survey and provide us with ID cards before January 31. Once the ID cards are issued they would start the drive of evacuating the illegal petty shops. So far we did not receive the ID cards, only 208 vendors have got a place in the Yakshagana ground. The yard does not attract any p[eople there and it is difficult to do our business. At present, there are 560 members of which only 208 members have received a place in the new yard.”

Asif also said, “We had information that the raid will be conducted at State bank and Lady Goschen area. Twelve persons who have received the ID cards do their business at the State bank area since they cannot do any business at the Yakshagana grounds. Those who have received the ID cards refuse to do business at the yard provided by MCC. The yard has a huge compound wall which we have requested the authorities to remove which they have not yet done. Let them provide the ID cards and other facilities to all the 560 street vendors before starting to evacuate us from the streets,” he said.
