RGPRS Udupi District Hands over ‘Gandhi Kuteera’ to Dalit Woman
Udupi: As part of the concluding ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations the Udupi district Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatana handed over a new house ‘Gandhi Kuteera’ to a dalit woman, Nalini from Korangrapady, Udyavar on November 6.
Siddaramaiah, opposition party leader, Dinesh Gundu Rao, president, KPCC jointly inugurated the house and handed over the new house to the dalit woman Nalini.
According to Roshini Olivera Co-ordintor of RGPRS of Udupi district, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the organization had decided to provide a house to the poor Dalit woman-Nalini of Karangrapdy area. The house with 550 square feet area was built at a cost of Rs 4.8 lakh was handed over to Nalini who was found to be the deserving candidate from the economically poor family.
We wanted to do something for the community on this auspicious occasion of celebrating Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. So we decided to invite applications from poor families. A total of seven applications were received from the 10 blocks of the Congress party in the district. Nalini’s name was finalised considering her poverty level. We have given the name of her new house as Gandhi Kuteera, she added.
