After Rift Couple Jumps into Well, Wife Survives
Puttur: A couple, having been married for only 18 months, jumped into a well in the yard of their home in 34 Nekkilady village near Uppinangady in the taluk late Friday night. While the husband died, the wife survived.
Prakash Naik (32), son of the late Balakrishna Naik who served as a lecturer in a women’s college in Jadekallu in Puttur, and his wife Ashashree (26), an assistant manager in a cooperative in Puttur, reportedly had a cordial relationship otherwise.
However, Prakash being a short-tempered person, they kept having a tiff once in a while. On Friday night around 10, after an argument, he is said to have jumped into the well next to the house. The wife too jumped after him.
A neighbour heard cries for help from the well the next morning. When he peeped into the well, Ashashree was found holding on to the pipe installed to the pump-set. With others’ help, she was brought up.
The fire service arrived and pumped the water out. Prakash’s body was found there. The police said that the wife had given conflicting versions about the sequence of events. They have taken up a thorough investigation.
