RLC Holds Public Meeting with Department Representatives, Demands Action Plan by May 25
Mangaluru: Labour Commissioner (Bengaluru) Palayya held a public meeting with several officials from various departments of the Dakshina Kannada district administration at the DC Office, State Bank here, on May 17.
Addressing the gathering Labour Commissioner Palayya said, “There have been several surveys and interactions that have been conducted here. All of you have enough information about the issues at hand. My only appeal to all of you is to create awareness and keep yourself informed. I have come to interact with all of you, and discuss certain issues especially with KSRTC and RTO departments. There have been similar meetings held at over 75 percent of Karnataka’s taluks. This district does not face many issues compared to other districts. However, I urge all the departments to conduct a survey in areas where laborers are facing discomfort. This report can be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and the RTI department.”
After the meeting, the Labour Commissioner spoke to the press. Addressing the mediapersons Palayya said, “I have instructed the various department heads to draft an action plan in order to tackle the issues under each department. The Chief Secretary conducted a meeting and told us that issues pertaining to the Labour department, Transport department, and KSRTC department must be surveyed and reported at the next RTI meeting. For example, the regional KSRTC department must find out which areas require bus service and how many buses have to be put into service. Based on this, the action plan will be drafted.”
He further said, “The action plan from all the departments will be consolidated and presented to the RTI on June 3, 2019. Each district will present a consolidated action plan. The instruction for the Labour Department is to create awareness among factory workers and owners. Similarly, the Chief Secretary has instructed the Education Department to gather the educational institution heads of each area and provide them with a bus transport facility if needed. I have told all the regional department heads to submit their action plans to the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner by May 25, 2019. After that, the submitted plans will be consolidated and presented to the State level RTI department on June 3, 2019.”
DCP (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh and representatives of the KSRTC, RTO, Labour, and Education regional departments were also present.
