Road widening at Nagori Red Building lane, residents stage Protest
Mangaluru: The residents of the Red building Lane, Nagori protested in front of the MCC here on March 30 demanding to withdraw the road widening project in their ward.
Addressing the protesters, one of the residents of the area Antony Maxim said, “We are facing severe problems due to the Nagori, Red building lane road widening. We are here to demand the concerned authorities to withdraw the road widening project because 90% of the residents will lose their houses with this project. Our ward corporator Asha D’Silva has collected signatures from all the residents promising us that the signatures are only for the development of the ward and not for the road widening work. Now when we all are facing problems, she is not ready to listen to our demands.”
The protesters later met the MLA of Mangaluru South Constituency J R Lobo and demanded to withdraw the project. They also said that 90% of the residents are facing problems. We have supported the corporator whenever she asked for our support but now when we need her help we are unable to contact her even on phone. We need justice and demand the concerned authorities to withdraw the road widening project.
MLA Lobo responding to the residents of Red Building Lane, Naqgori said, “I will try my level best to solve your problems. We need to find some other alternative,” he said.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Mayor to look into the issue and give justice.
