Robin Hood Army Organizes ‘Bon Apetit-A Meal to Heal’ at Vidya Jyothi School-Kavoor
Mangaluru: This October 2nd, the Robin Hood Army organized: ‘Bon appétit-A Meal to Heal’ at Vidya Jyothi School, Kavoor. The green-clad group of 50 volunteers fed more than 200 people along with empowering them through menstrual awareness and first-aid modules. The Robins, as they like to call themselves, distributed sanitary napkins to all the girls and their mothers while teaching them about health and hygiene. Food is love made edible and what made the event more special was that it corresponded with Gandhi Jayanti and as Bapuji himself said, “There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” The food was sponsored by Prince caterers, Mangaluru.
ABOUT ROBIN HOOD ARMY:
1,200,000,000,000 ? Having trouble counting? That’s 1.2 trillion kilograms of food wasted each year.
Hunger kills more people each year than AIDS, malaria and terrorism combined; 850 Million to be precise. Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger, so by the time you would have finished reading this, there would be 10 innocent lives brutally extinguished; their wails and cry for bread echoing in your ears reverberating this hard truth as you simply continue to sip your mocha.
So, how can we help?
The Robin Hood Army is an NGO with a vision of eliminating global hunger and food wastage. It is a volunteer-based, zero-funds organization that works to acquire surplus food from restaurants and the community to serve less fortunate people. Along with this, RHA’s academy drives aims to spread awareness about important issues and educate the underprivileged. The idea is to create self-sustained chapters that will look after their local community. It currently has chapters over 140 cities across the globe and has served over 24 million meals. It has been applauded in KBC’S Karamveer episode and studied for their no funds approach by the Harvard Business School.
So, if you have ever taken excess food and dumped the rest away or observed a social issue in your region that needs to be addressed, join RHA Mangalore’s efforts in aiming for 0% hunger and 100% literacy.
