Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal set the record for most openings in India-South Africa Test

Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal have set a new record in their first Test as opening partners. Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal broke the 15-year-old record for the highest opening scored runs for India in Tests against South Africa, which is hosted by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma prevailed 21–05 – a rally achieved by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in Kanpur in the 2004–05 session – in the morning session of Day 2 of the first Test going on in Visakhapatnam.

Notably, Rohit and Mayank set a new record for the highest opening stand in 1996 by AC Hudson and Gary Kirsten in first India vs South Africa Test. India’s doubles broke the 22-year-old record when the opening stand last 236 runs on Thursday.

3 Indian opening pair after 300 plus opening stand

Rohit and Mayank did and took their opening stand with a score of 300 runs. They have become only the third Indian opening pair after Vinu Mankad and Pankaj Roy and Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag after scoring over 300 for 1 wicket in Tests. This was only the 14th instance in Test cricket, in which an opening pair scored over 300 runs.

Rohit Sharma completed his 4th Test century and his 1st century as an opener on the last match and curses the South African bowlers with powerful strokes. India, after successive failures from the likes of KL Rahul, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan in Tests in the last 24 months, set out to lead Rohit to the top of the batting order.

In fact, Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal became India’s 9th separate opening pair since July 2017. India, it seems, has finally succeeded, with Mayank and Rohit going about their business in the ongoing Test against South Africa.

The pair claimed to influence the bowlers, as, at a score of 202, India started their Day 2. Mayank completed his first Test century in the first hour of day 2 as the Indian openers showed no signs of slowing down.

Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were made to look ugly by South African fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander, who were above their mark by a storm on Wednesday morning. However, both openers took their time to compromise in their innings and urged them to throw their bats at everything that came their way.

Once both batsmen were stopped, there was no change in their innings. The pair was serious against the South African spinners and was beaten by both Rohit and Mayank.
