Ronald D’Mello (60) hailing from Karkala & Ex-Employee of Taj Hotel, Mumbai Dies due to Covid-19
Mangaluru: Ronald D’Mello, aged 60, hailing from Kemmangundi, in Karkala Taluq , and a former Captain at 5-Star Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba, Mumbai, passed away on Sunday night, 5 April 2020.
Sources reveal that Ronald was suffering from kidney failure, which has reached the end stage. Having being hospitalized for the first time at a hospital in Mumbai for dialysis procedures, and in the meantime, it is learnt that Ronald was diagnosed with Covid-19 infection. And sadly, he passed away after being admitted in the hospital just for a day.
It is learnt that Ronald had left his hometown, looking for a job in Mumbai, when he was 17. Finding a job at Taj group of hotels-Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai as a Captain, he served there for 40 years, and just recently on 24 March, he celebrated his 60th birthday. He leaves behind his wife, Marita D’mello, who is the Director of Model Co-operative Bank, Mumbai, and two sons- eldest one employed in Australia, and other was staying with him- and is now under home quarantine due to his dad’s death due to Coronavirus. Marita was taking care of Ronald during his illness.
Ronald was a active member of Vasai Konkani Association, Mumbai, and a social worker. As per sources, due to guidelines in regard to Covid-19, Ronald was cremated within few hours after his demise, by the government officials. And the sad part was that the family members never got a chance to pay their last respect to their beloved family member due to the Covid-19 rules, where the Central Govt has framed guidelines for handling such persons who die of coronavirus, since it may spread among others.
