Roshni Nilaya Holds Orientation Programme ‘Rangasangama’

Mangaluru: The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya Departments of languages English, Kannada and Hindi in collaboration with Kannada and Samskruti Ilakkey, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat organized an orientation programme “Rangasangama”, at Roshni Nilaya here on September 26.

The programame began with an invocation. Head of the Department of Kannada Roshni Nilaya Obanath welcomed the gathering. Registrar Dr Laxminarayan Bhat inaugurated the programme by beating the drums. Dr Laxminarayan Bhat spoke about the importance of Art, culture, stage play, dance and music in everyone’s life as it is a form of sublime happiness.

Students of Besant College and Gokarnatheshwara College showcased two plays “Veera Mathey” and “Kauravana Garva Bangha”. The Head of the Department of English Shobhana Manohar introduced Rangasara to the gathering.

Director of Namma Kudla Dr Shivaram Shetty appreciated the College for providing space for art and culture alongside curricular activities. He stated that focusing on Art Forms develops a personality and let’s one express oneself.

The principal of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya Juliet C J, delivered the Presidential Address and spoke about the importance and history of theatre in the lives of people.

Dr Keshav Gowda U, Head of the Department of Hindi delivered the vote of thanks. Balakrishna Hegde, Kannada Samskriti Ilakkey, Prof Krishnanand Hegde, Dr Shivasharan Shetty, Raviraj and Suresh Varkadi were also present.

‘Veera Mathey’, a historical play portraying the fight for Ullal under the seige of the Portuguese and the adventure and sacrifice of Kutappa, a brave soldier in Rani Abakka’s Army was showcased by the students of Besant College. This was followed by the showcasing of another play ‘Kauravana Garva Bangha’ which portrayed the character of Kaurava from the Mahabharata and the destruction of his ego.
