Rotary Annual Inter Orphanage Olympics Sports & Cultural Meet on 25 Nov
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Dr Devdas Rai-Chairman, organizing committee of Rotary Club of Mangalore Central said, “Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central jointly with Rotaract Club of Mangaluru City will be organizing their “20th Annual Rotary Inter Orphanage Olympics” and Cultural meet on Sunday 25.11.2018 at Canara High School Urva Premises. A daylong event of Sports And Cultural carnival is organized as part of clubs community development project. About 600 children residing in 11 different orphanages operating in and around Mangaluru will participate in this Grand event”.
He further said, “D.K. Deputy Commissioner of Mr. Sasikanth Senthil S, will grace the occasion as chief guest and will inaugurate the meet at 09.00 a.m. on 25 November and Rotary Dist 3181 zone II Asst. Governor Rtn. Kiran Prasad Rai will be the guest of honour. President of Rotary Club Rtn. Santhosh Shet will preside over the function. The Inter Orphanage sports event comprises of 100 mtrs Running Race, Frog Race, Sack Race, Lemon & Spoon Race, Book balancing Race and Tug of war as team event. The cultural competition will be in the afternoon session. After the spectacular and colourful March past by the different teams, children’s will be showcasing their sports skills and cultural Talents. R.I. Dist 3181 Governor Elect Rtn. Ranganath Bhat will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held at 05.00 pm the same day and award the prizes to the winners and present the trophy to the overall performing team champions”
Orphanages participating in this Olympics are- Swami Shradhanand Sevashram; Ishwarananda Sevashram; St Joseph’s Prashanth Nivas; Bala Samarakshana Kendra; Abhaya Bala Mandira; Zeenath Baksh Yateemkhana; Bala Yesu Nilaya; De Mercede Orphanage; Bhagini Samaj-all from Mangaluru; and Aloysian Boys Home (Kotekar); and Stella Mary’s Convent-Kotekar.
The Club has initiated this fun fare festival of sports and cultural events in the year 1996. It is its aim to provide platform for the enthusiastic children on this special day to display their hidden cultural talents and exhibit their sporting skills. It is a rare opportunity provided to them to come to the mainstream. It is also a sense of freedom and a feeling of enjoyment and a memorable day for them in their life.
President of Rotary Club Santhosh Shet, and Secretary Joel Lobo, Rotaract Club President Rtr. Ganesh Bhat & Secretary Sheldon Crasta were present in the press meet.
