‘Run for unity’ marks birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Udupi: A ‘run for unity’ was organised by the District Police to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as ‘Iron Man of India’, on Tuesday, October 31.

Dr Sanjeev M Patil Superintendent of Police Udupi district flagged off the rally. The rally passed through Mahatma Gandhi Stadium Ajjarkad and culminated at the Town Hall.

Police Officials, staff from various departments, sportspersons and public participated in the run. The participants in the run took a pledge to work for the unity and integrity of the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sanjeev Patil said that it’s the birth anniversary of India’s first deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who made an immense contribution and was responsible for the unification of India.

Similar Unity march was also organised by the District Police at Karkala and Kundpaur Taluk. The Union Government observes October 31, all over the country as a day of special occasion, to foster and reinforce the Government’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by celebrating it as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India, who held offices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country.
