‘Run For Unity’ Marks Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Udupi: To mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the District administration along with the District Police organized a ‘run for unity’ here on Thursday, October 31.
Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu and Superintendent of Police Nisha James flagged off the run which is passed through Yeluru Mogaveera Auditorium and culminated at the Malpe Beach.
In his message, Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu said, “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a leading role in the country’s freedom struggle and guided its integration into a united, independent nation”.
SP Nisha James highlighted the contribution of Sardar Patel in Indian history. She said that ‘Run for Unity’ is a focal point for numerous communities and unity-building initiatives that harmonise and celebrate the unity in diversity of India.
Police Officials, staff from various departments, sportspersons and the public participated in the run. All the participants of the run took a pledge to work for the unity and integrity of the nation.
Additional SP Kumarchandra, ASP Karkala Krishnakanth, DySP Jai Shanker, CPI Udupi Manjunath, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty deputy director Youth and Sports department and others were present.
The Union Government observes October 31, all over the country as a special day, to foster and reinforce the Government’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by celebrating it as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). This day is we commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India, who held offices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country.
