‘Run for unity’ marks birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Udupi
Udupi: A ‘run for unity’ was organised by the District administration along with the District Police to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as ‘Iron Man of India’, on Wednesday, October 31.
Shree Vidya Additional DC and Laxman Nimbaragi Superintendent of Police Udupi district flagged off the rally. The rally passed through Tiger Circle Manipal and culminated at the End Point.
Police Officials, staff from various departments, sportspersons and the public participated in the run. The participants in the run took a pledge to work for the unity and integrity of the nation.
The Union Government observes October 31, all over the country as a day of special occasion, to foster and reinforce the Government’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by celebrating it as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India, who held offices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country.
