Mangaluru: Two players from Dakshina Kannada won two medals in Sanshou event at State Wushu Championship “14th Karnataka State Wushu Championship” which was held in Bagalkot for September 4 th-6th . Dakshina Kannada District Wushu Association(DKDWA) sent six players for Sanshou (Free sparring style) event, won one gold and one silver. Saaksha got one silver medal in Girls Sub Junior Sanshou under 40kg category, and Namarsha N.Ganiga in the finals grabbed gold medal in Women Senior Sanshou category.
Sanshou players have instruction from Famous Karate Master Praveen Kumar,President of DKDWA, their challenge for Sanshou was good match. Team Manager Haruka Ito, Technical Director of DKDWA, a Japanese who promotes Wushu in Mangaluru comments: “This is the first time challenge for these female players, however their challenge spirit was excellent, I feel this is a good experience for their martial arts life”.
In addition, Manjunath SS got one gold medal in Men Changquan Optional (Exhibition Routine Set) event. He lives in Bangalore, belongs to Bagalkot though, he sometimes come to Mangaluru to have exclusive coaching of Haruka Ito. In India, Wushu is a recognized sport by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Indian Olympic Association. Now, Wushu in shortlist of added events for 2020 Olympics. Mission of DKDWA is to promote Wushu, Chinese martial arts in district as well, since this achievement is a great milestone for the future of Dakshina Kannada Wushu activities.
