Saints and Sages have kept our tradition alive – PM Narendra Modi
Udupi: Saints and Sages have kept our tradition alive said Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. He was speaking through video conferencing at the Sri Krishna Math on the eve of Saptha Shatamanotsava of Sri Madhwacharya here on February 5.
Years have passed and the country has witnessed ups and downs but our tradition has still been kept alive and passed on to generations. Humanity was the core principle of Madhwacharya which has inspired the nation. Divinity prospered from Southern India to the entire nation. Changes keep on haunting the society which may be good or bad, but good should prevail over evil.
Saints have promoted transformation and also safeguarded our tradition. Divine values are nurtured and filled in people to experience honesty and modesty. Honesty alone can eliminate corruption. Honesty in work and deeds can root out corruption from the country.
Saints are a prominent part of the Indian society. They have transformed the society by uniting and building the nation with divine values and also with progressive literature. They have shown the right path to the society to flourish and progress.
The prominent contribution of saints to the society is the protection of Mother Nature, we worship trees and nature which is part of protecting nature. Saints have called to protect nature, cow and its resources which are still effectively practiced in India. The world looks for solutions to unsolved problems. India is the only nation where tradition and customs give answers to each and every problem.
Time has changed traditions and customs but it has left little impact on the Indian society where moral values and traditions are nurtured by sages. Saints have played a prominent role in weeding out inhuman practices which were prevalent in the society. Saints were the first to promote cleanliness in the country.
Madhwacharya had influenced the divinity of the country. To become a part of the Saptha Shatamanotsava programme is indeed a great honour. Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math has influenced the nation. Pejawar Swamiji through his 80 years of saintly life has contributed a lot to the nation in sense of social presence and divinity.
“Udupi is very near to my heart, I had participated in the second Paryaya of the Pejawar Math and now addressing a galore of the audience brings immense pleasure. Udupi CMC was the first in the Country which helped in the emergence of Jan Sangh. It was in Udupi that the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS), the earlier avatar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won the Udupi Town Municipal Council (TMC) elections in 1968. This victory was hailed by the BJS throughout the country as it was the party’s first foray into South India. Till then, the BJS had not won any urban local body elections in South India. “But, it became a still happier event when the Udupi TMC was later declared the best-run body in the State,” he said.
Pejawar Swamiji welcomed PM Modi and extended his blessings, he also invited him to visit the Sri Krishna Math Udupi before ending his Paryaya tenure. Swamiji also recalled that during his second Paryaya Modi had attended as a volunteer, this time Modi should come as the prime minister of India.
