Sam Rockwell wins his first Oscar
Los Angeles, March 5 (IANS) Actor Sam Rockwell won his first Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
He was named as the Best Supporting Actor at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday here.
He was up against Willem Dafoe (“The Florida Project’), Woody Harrelson (“Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Richard Jenkins “(The Shape of Water”) and Christopher Plummer (“All the Money in the World”) for the award.
“I would like to thank the Academy, and fellow nominees… You all inspire me. My mom and dad’s love for movies became my love for movies,” Rockwell said while accepting the award from actress Viola Davis.
Helmed by Martin McDonagh, “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” is about a mother who, when the police in her town fail to find a suspect in her daughter’s murder, purchases three billboards to call public attention to the unsolved crime.
Rockwell went on to thanked his co-stars and crew.
“You guys rock, you inspire me… I thank everyone involved in the movie.”
