Samithi holds protest in front of Madhwaraj and Sorake office demanding Taluk Status for Brahmavar

Udupi: The Brahmavar Taluk Rachana Horata Samithi organised an innovative protest in front of the District minister and former district minister in-charge office here on Saturday, January 21.

The members of the Samithi held the protest by singing Bhajans in front of minister Pramod Madhwaraj and former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake’s office and demanded to announce Taluk Status for Brahmavar in the coming budget.

Speaking to the protesters, Satish Poojary President of the Taluk Rachana Samiti said, the proposal to set up the taluk office was started by the former BJP-led government under the leadership of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar in 2013. But the taluk status was withdrawn by the Congress-led state government on the first day of is functioning. This has caused injustice to the residents. The demand was made keeping the development of the area in mind. But due to political reasons until now the present congress government has not announced Brahmavar as a Taluk. The MPs and the MLAs of the region are also not taking any interest in this matter. Many times our committee has met the Chief Minister and the Revenue minister and from last 4 years have only got assurances from them. Brahmavar is a fast growing city in Udupi district. If the government fails to announce taluk status for Brahmavar the Samithi would stage a huge protest, he warned.

Nalini Pradeep Rao, Koti Poojary, Sadashiv Shetty, Mahendra Kumar, Ramakrishna Herle and others were present.
