Doha, May 19 (IANS) The playing pitch of the San Siro stadium in Milan, which will host the Champions League football final between Real Madrid and crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid, is still not ready for the tie.
The final is to be held on May 28.
“We are facing a lot of challenges to get this pitch up to the level it needs to be for the Champions League final,” Keith Dalton, senior match operations manager with European football governing body UEFA, said during the 2016 World Stadium Congress conference here on Wednesday, reports Efe.
Dalton explained that UEFA appointed a number of experts to analyse the condition of San Siro’s field, which had its grass worn down after being the home stadium of both AC Milan and Inter Milan.
San Siro hosted a total of 76 games throughout the current season for both the Italian clubs.
However, Dalton assured the fans who will be attending the Champions League final and stressed that the pitch will be ready by May 28.
