Mumbai, Feb 9 (IANS) Filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar, who feels that her marriage to T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar was part of her destiny and a matter of “soul connection”, says her new directorial “Sanam Re” has many elements which she has picked from her personal life.
“I come from a conservative middle class Punjabi family. I come from such a family where nobody would think of becoming an actress or be a part of this industry. I think it was destiny that they supported my decision to come to Mumbai to pursue my dream.
“I believe in soul connection and was meant to marry Bhushan (Kumar). My destiny got me here, not my work and that’s what I call soul connection,” Divya said in an interview.
Divya is not just a director, but has acted too. She featured in “Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo” in 2004 with actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol. A year later, she got married and quit films.
“I have put many elements in ‘Sanam Re’ which resembles my personal life,” she added.
Nine years after featuring as an actress, Divya came back into the limelight as the director of “Yaariyan”.
She feels Bollywood is focusing least on making pure love stories these days.
“While rom-coms are often made in Bollywood, a pure love story like ‘Aashiqui 2’ is hardly thought about these days. ‘Aashiqui 2’ is pure and innocent. I can relate to that love story,” she said.
Talking about her own film, Divya said: “My film ‘Sanam Re’ talks about love and happiness. We think that we might be happy if we become successful in life but it does not make you happy all the time. So, it’s a deep feeling which my film tells.”
Apart from directing the film, Divya has also starred in a special song in “Sanam Re”, which will be releasing on Valentine’s weekend. The mother of a four-year-old son, Divya has surprised all and sundry with the song “Humne pee rakhi hai”, in which she is looking svelte and uber glamorous.
“Sanam Re” features Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela in the lead roles.
